I loooooove swimming, and like to write about it too…

Ever get that feeling like you’re not really ready to swim, but it’s now or never? That’s kind of where I am these days. I got up around 3:45, but didn’t head out to the pool until just before 6. I thought I’d have to shoot across town when I found the street in front of the Y closed, but it was just the street, not the Y.
It is definitely getting easier. I am not struggling through that first set of freestyle. My flip turns are getting more routine, although I did have a funky too close to the wall thing where I bumped my heel on the edge of the pool. This was followed by a too far from the wall turn that had me inhaling chlorine through my nose and struggling to come up above water after the turn.
I didn’t want to be a wimp about it, but I stopped doing flip turns after that one.
My IM times are the big story: My first IM time was 1:41.20–3 seconds faster than my previous best time! My second IM time was very close to my old best time: 2:44.66. That performance kept me motivated to finish my set at 1600, even though I was tired enough to want to stop at 1500.
Since I swam 100 more yards than last time, I not only reached my goal of swimming 500 free total yards. I ended up swimming 525 both free and back.
My next goal is to swim 1700. I’m not sure whether I’ll accomplish that this week; I’m running/walking in a girls on the Run 5k on Thursday, so it just depends on whether I feel up to swimming strenuously or not.

Hi Angie,
I am so impressed! I like this website and I am going to check it out much more often. I think it will motivate me to continue working on my swimming. Last night I swam for 55 minutes. Don’s ask me why I didn’t continue for 5 more minutes. I felt really good afterwards and next time I start at the deep end and swim to the the opposite end. A life guard told that will help to overcome my reluctance to go all the way. From the 9 1/2 feet it’s a little shorter to the 5 and 1/2. I am definitely getting more confident and I love it. After my swim I went to the 24 Hour fitness to check out their pool but I find that these kind of gyms are not for me. I had checked out Bally’s a few weeks earlier. I thought I wanted to try them because the depth of their pools is only about 3 or 4 feet and I would get used to swimming the length without fearing that something would happen before reaching the end and I could just stand up. But I realize now that this is something I need to work on in the regular size pool.
